Mr. Skinny's Birthday Weekend.

I'll be doing my weekly pregnancy update tomorrow, I wanted to talk about my weekend for once! Today actually is Mr. Skinny's birthday, he's a Halloween baby, by the way, Happy Halloween! Anyway, growing up, his birthday wasn't ever special. I don't blame his parents, they have 5 kids and they weren't raised that way, as far as I can tell, but since I was raised with your birthday being your special day, you eat what you wanted and got to go where you wanted, within reason, of course. Well, I know how much Mr. Skinny loves trains, and since we're only about an hour from the Steamtown National Historic Site, I thought it would be a nice excuse to get away for a weekend and take a long train ride. And that it was. Minus the snowstorm that came out of nowhere! It was a beautiful preview of Christmas though and made me remember how beautiful snow is, even though I hate the cold.

Now I can bombard you with pictures!

The view from our room during the snow!

Because of the snow, Mr. Skinny actually got off work on Saturday, he didn't have to go in at all! He was happy about that for his birthday weekend. Once we knew the storm was coming we didn't know if we'd be able to go up at all and because I purchased the advanced reservations for our hotel (read: couldn't cancel the reservations, we would have just lost our money if we didn't go), we really didn't want to loose that money. And I was looking forward to a weekend alone. We decided to leave early and walk around the Steamtown Mall before we could check into our room. That was the best idea. I actually got my first pair of maternity jeans! They were on sale for $20 and they were petites, so I just had to get them. I've been wearing my bella band, but that's not entirely comfortable either.

We ate at TGI Fridays, and I had pasta which was okay, but exactly what I wanted, I finished the whole thing, and then felt sick afterwards. Go figure! I can't eat as big of meals as I could before! We watched a lot of TV and spend time together. There was a pool, but we didn't go in it, Mr. Skinny was passed out by 8pm on Saturday night!

The same view the next morning!

Sunday morning we were lounging around until the power went off in our hotel, so we checked out a little early and headed to breakfast at Perkins. Then off to our train ride.

Waiting for our train ride.

Our train.

The view during our ride.

I'm actually really happy there was snow, or else the ride would have probably been quite boring. It was a little annoying because the steam kept fogging up our windows and I couldn't get too many good pictures. The ride was about an hour and a half, then we stopped at the Tobyhanna Station and got out to look at the model trains, and grab a bite to eat, before getting on the train for the ride back. I actually fell asleep on the way back, I'm surprised Mr. Skinny didn't take a picture of that. But, I have an excuse to sleep randomly throughout the day.

Since today is Mr. Skinny's actual birthday, I'm making him a meatloaf for dinner and my mom is going to make mashed potatoes and broccoli. Seriously, I can't make good, creamy mashed potatoes to save my life! It's rather terrible actually. Then we have ice cream cake for dessert. I don't think we'll be able to eat as a family, but that's okay, Mr. Skinny felt like his birthday was this weekend anyway, not so much today.

All in all, it was a good weekend, but weekends slip away to nothing so quickly! How does that happen?! I keep telling Mr. Skinny we need to take a long weekend baby moon, but he'd rather pay off our debts than take a weekend vacation. I need to convince him to change that. :)

Tell me:

Have you ever been on a train?
Were your birthdays special growing up? Are you planning on making them a big deal for your kids?

snow day!

Yes, we are having another snow day. If we were up in PA, school would have just been a 2 hour delay, and would not have closed all day, but we live in Maryland, were people don't know how to handle snowy roads. The dept. of transportation doesn't even know how to plow or put salt down on the roads. But, I'm not complaining, I'll take another lazy day, although I need to shower today, and possibly get to the gym, and shower, and ya know, get out of my jammies. But eh, I might forego the gym. I like being a lazy bum. I do need to shower today though.

I think we got almost a foot of snow here. I tried to upload some pictures, but for whatever reason, my blog won't let me. Anyways, it's been another very non-eventful day here. We slept in (the hubs didn't have work either, but he found that our after he went to his foreman's house and got stuck in the snow there, called me to come pick him up. Being the good wife that I am, I got up, put my shoes on and went to the car, trying to call him continuously, and he wouldn't pick up. Here, his foreman brought him back home. Ugh! Just like a man, right?), and made delicious bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches for breakfast, and a potato pancake - it was an awesome, and very point-y breakfast.

Maybe I should start taking pictures of my food. My posts are pretty boring. We have a whole fridge of leftovers, so I should probably just eat something from in there rather than making what I had planned. I really wanted pizza last night, and I could go for a salad... Hmm, we'll see what Mr. Skinny would like to do.

Happy Thursday all!
