How baby's growing:
Your new resident is nearly an inch long — about the size of a grape — and weighs just a fraction of an ounce. She's starting to look more and more human. Her essential body parts are accounted for, though they'll go through plenty of fine-tuning in the coming months. Other changes abound: Your baby's heart finishes dividing into four chambers, and the valves start to form — as do her tiny teeth. The embryonic "tail" is completely gone. Your baby's organs, muscles, and nerves are kicking into gear. The external sex organs are there but won't be distinguishable as male or female for another few weeks. Her eyes are fully formed, but her eyelids are fused shut and won't open until 27 weeks. She has tiny earlobes, and her mouth, nose, and nostrils are more distinct. The placenta is developed enough now to take over most of the critical job of producing hormones. Now that your baby's basic physiology is in place, she's poised for rapid weight gain. To read that is an absolute miracle. Honestly, the forming of a child is just an incredible miracle. I can't believe that I'm housing this child for another 31 weeks, that my body is this tiny human's home where s/he was put together by their Creator. Sorry for getting sappy, but I'm pregnant, I have these moments.

How I'm feeling:
My super sense of smell came in in the last week. Nothing really bothers me, but I can smell just about everything. I'm still getting up a lot during the night to pee, but that's not going to change I'm sure. My boobs still hurt, but either I'm getting used to them, or they aren't hurting as much. The worse is when I wake up during the night to go to the bathroom and that initial gravity pulling them down SUCKS.
Yesterday was the first day where I could have actually taken a nap. Call us redneck, but my in-laws had a wood splitting party where the men rented a splitter and split wood all day and the women cooked and gabbed all day. We finally got to tell the rest of the family - Mr. Skinny's one sister and his two aunts - so there was a lot of baby talk for most of the day. I actually felt kind of dizzy yesterday, too. Nothing too bad, but every time I got up to go to the bathroom, I was light-headed. I feel okay today, but I'm hoping that doesn't become a regular thing.

| 9 weeks. |
I bought a bella band last week before my doctor's appointment and let me tell you, that thing is the best invention ever! If you don't know what it is, it's like a spandex-y band that you put over your unbuttoned jeans and it goes up to your boobs, basically, but you don't have to button/zip your jeans! I know I'll get a pair of maternity pants eventually, but for right now, the bella band is my best friend.
Exercise still isn't happening either, but I think I'm going to make myself go for a walk today. I have a treadmill and there's no excuse why I can't just walk on that, but it's a little complicated to set up, I have to spin it around and we have wood floors in our room that get scratched when I do that, but it's sunny today so no excuses! I might try to run a little bit, like a minute at a time, just to get some extra exercise in. I really need to stop being lazy and get my butt a-walking.
Tell me:
What did you do this weekend?
Do you think a wood splitting party is a little bit or a lotta bit redneck?

The light headedness can be a sign of dehydration, FYI. I'm with you on the feeling fat thing and I almost punched someone when she asked me when I would start showing. Umm, this is showing for me, I'm not just fat! How do you feel about the Baby Bump app? I feel like the women in the forums are either really stupid and/or really mean. I hate my month group with a fiery passion and I was cruising on the second trimester forum today (so close!) and was kind of taken aback by the trolling. And I love that you think time is moving fast! Before 12 weeks, I felt like life was at a stand still and I was never going to get to the magic number. Now, things have sped up a little, but I still can't wait to get to 20 and find out what it is (I'm hoping for human)!
ReplyDeleteA wood splitting party sounds fun! I like staying inside when the men have to work, haha.
