Morning all. I have a request. Could you send some prayers to my in-laws? Let me explain.Mr. Skinny's grandfather (Pop Pop) has heart problems. Actually his whole family has heart problems. Pop Pop's father died of a heart attack when he was 47, Pop Pop has had 5 bypasses in total, and 3 of them are now blocked. My FIL had a heart attack at 47 -- 2 years ago now, and he still hasn't stopped drinking, but anyways, that's another story.
Pop Pop's health otherwise is eh. He has low platelets, which makes surgery not always a good option. In April 2009, Pop Pop wasn't feeling himself, so he went to his PCP and he put a heart monitor on him. Pop Pop was barely home for 5 minutes and the Dr. called Grandma and told her to call 911 immediately. Pop Pop needed to get to the hospital ASAP. While he was in the hospital, his heart stopped 2 times, and thank goodness he was hooked up to all those machines and they were able to start it again. He also got a pacemaker. I was in school at the time, and literally fell to my knees when DH called and told me what was going on. I packed my bags, emailed my professors, and BOOKED IT home! That was the fasted that I'd EVER made it home, going 85 or 90 the whole way. All the grandkids came in, but Pop Pop recovered. He felt better, he wasn't as weak, and we thought everything was okay.
Fast forward to the recent months. Pop Pop's gotten weaker again, he's not himself. He went in to get a stint put in on the 19th of this month, but they couldn't do anything because of his platelet count. Last weekend he fell down the stairs to the basement, and Grandma's on oxygen, and couldn't do much. Luckily they have close enough family who came over and picked him up and carried him upstairs. He's not himself anymore, he's weak. Last night he rolled off of bed, and my 2 BIL had to pick him up and get him back on the bed, he couldn't move. He's going for bloodwork today to see what they can do.
This man has adopted me as a granddaughter. I showed up for Easter dinner one year, and he told me I made his day. He is the grandfather I never had. He's the sweetest man ever, always has a good story to tell, and makes you comfortable. I'm not prepared to deal with Mr. Skinny if his grandfather passes away. This man is DHs idol, right after his dad, DH was named after this man, and has looked up to him forever.
Please pray that I can handle this situation well if it comes to it. That DH and his family can cope with whatever God has planned for Pop Pop. We're going home this weekend to see Pop Pop. All he wants is for us to move back up to PA, he is such a loving man, and it would rip my heart out to have him pass away with us living in Maryland. Just pray that it all works out, and I'll keep you posted.
I called my grandfathers pop pop too :)
