Lenten Sacrifices.

I'm sure this isn't the first blog post you've read about giving up something for lent, and I'm almost positive it's not going to be your last. Sometimes, I feel like lent is a chance to break up those New Years resolutions that we all put on our ourselves, the eat better, be a better person, workout more resolutions. Considering that my New Years goals were pretty broad, this is sort of true for me, too.

Since lent is really based on a religious practice, a lot of people think we're crazy to give something up for 40 or 46ish days (depending if you go by Sundays are the exception philosophy), but it's to focus on the ultimate sacrifice that He gave. One that makes me teary eyed each time I think about it in my pregnant hormonal state. Since I am pregnant this year, and don't know exactly where I'll be in 46 days, I wanted to be an easily bendable ish sacrifice for myself.

My mom would give up sweets nearly every year. She never made us give up anything, but once I got old enough to realize what lent was really about, I always toyed with the idea of giving something up. Last year, I kind of mentioned on the blog about going vegetarian 2 days a week. This year, I'm going to be following the same routine, although trying to step it up. Since I am pregnant, if I get a craving for a big juicy steak, I'm probably going to indulge, but Mondays & Wednesdays will be vegetarian nights in this house. Honestly, only my mom and I are on board with this idea, and I'm sure the men in the house will complain about it each Monday & Wednesday. I'd really like to try to be a vegetarian the majority of the next 46ish days. If I eat meat, I'm going to try to only do it at dinner time, which shouldn't be too hard.

Being a vegetarian is something I toy with quite often, mostly because I don't agree with how the animals are treated that I'm eating. Ideally, I'd love to only eat meat products that I know where the came from, and be a vegetarian in all other cases. Hopefully, some day I'll get there.

In addition to going meatless as much as possible, I found a devotion that's specifically about lent, and will be reading that each morning. Moreso that just sacrificing something, I want to really focus on what this time is all about in my relationship with God. I've been pretty good about reading the devotions from my woman's Bible, but I want to focus on these next weeks and what that means to me. I want to grow closer in my relationship with God and be the best Christian and follower of Christ that I can be.

Tell me:

What are your feelings about lent?
Are you giving anything up this year?

Four Years Ago.

Sorry for the delay in my 23 week update. It's coming. I promise. Hopefully tomorrow. I have a ton of topics I want to blog about, just having a hard time coming up with the time to sit down and write them. My days off (Monday & Wednesday) are my normal blogging days, since I don't like to sit in front of the computer once Mr. Skinny comes home. But this past Monday was hectic, I had a to-do list a mile long, including going to town to get some things to rip down our wallpaper, hideous wallpaper, in our bedroom. Today, I'm going to meet a new-ish friend for lunch (hopefully writing a topic on that), and then it's time for me to make dinner for today and tomorrow. I like my days packed, but I also like my time to do what I want, especially considering that I know most, if not all of that, is going out the window in about 4ish months.

Okay, so four years ago today, Mr. Skinny proposed to me. I don't know if I've divulged in our history before, forgive me if I did (blame prego-brain), but I wanted to do that today.

It all started way back in 5th grade. Yes, really. I started 5th grade at a new elementary school because I live in the sticks and our elementary school only went up to 4th grade, they've since remodeled, but that was what happened to me. Like any other 11 year old girl, I found a guy to have a crush on. He had dimples and glasses. So what does an 11-year old girl do to that boy? Why, poke his dimples and steal his glasses. Duh, that's how she tells him she likes him. Said boy thought that this girl was really annoying and just put up with her.

Yep, Mr. Skinny and I in 5th grade.

Fast forward a few years, to eighth grade. This girl had a boyfriend who was a jerk, but whatever, he thought she loved him. Psh. The boy like the girl, but new she was "going out" with this other boy, but they still hung out every day in 5th period, telling the study hall teacher that they were going to the library, and telling the librarian they were going back to study hall. They hung out with another couple who was actually dating and the boy and girl flirted. A lot.

The next year, in 9th grade, the girl and her boyfriend broke up, and the boy who she flirted with was still her friend and they still hung out in school a lot.  That summer was a hard one for the girl. It was spent hanging out with some friends, but it being her first "single" summer in a few years, she was a little down.  She actually thought about the boy a lot that summer and thought about calling him to hang out, even looking his phone number up in the phone book (remember those days??). She never got the courage up to do it though.

The boy had an equally hard summer. He's an extremely hard worker and spent his summer working at a banquet hall every weekend, trying to save enough money to finish his 1982 CJ7 jeep. After work each night, he'd come home and steal a beer from his dad, because that's what his dad did when he wanted to relax. When he wasn't working, he was with his dad or grandfather, helping them with something around the house. He never hung out with friends, he helped his family or worked.

Once school started that year, tenth grade, the boy and girl met up again and talked. The girl still remembers that first day hello, awkward since they both kind of liked each other, but they didn't say anything. The next month was a blur, but they hung out every Friday after school, walking to a restaurant for dinner before the girl had to cheer at the football game. The boy watching each game that he could. Finally, a month after school started, the girl and boy started dating, and the rest is history.

Us at semi in 10th grade.
They made it through those last 3 years of high school, never breaking up once, always sticking together. They were voted class couple of their senior class.

The girl went away to college, 200 miles and 3 hours away to college. They still never broke up. That first semester was tough, the first month the boy didn't have a car, and all they could do was talk on the phone each night, and they did. They were determined to make it work.

In January, the boy had a dream that it was time for them to get engaged. So he went to the mall, and picked out a ring, with the girl's guidelines, of course. He wanted to wait until Valentine's Day, but was too nervous he was going to loose the ring. He had a plan, he was going to bring the girl back to his apartment, make dinner and propose, but the girl was nervous about this plan. She didn't want her mom to find out that she was staying at his apartment overnight, so she tried to lie to her mom, even though her mom knew the plan from the boy already. Both of their families knew that he was going to propose. The weather almost stopped them. The normal 2 hour drive from the boy's apartment to the girl's college took about 5 hours with the snow and slush. He picked her up and brought her back to his apartment.

They made pizza and caesar salad for dinner. Just before the girl started eating, the boy said "wait" and put a flannel jacket (ironically the one that belong to the girl's boyfriend from 8th grade). He said he had a surprise. When the boy took the jacket off the girl's head, he made her close her eyes, and he got down on one knee.

"Megan, you know I love you. Will you marry me?"

When she opened her eyes, there he was, on one knee with the perfect engagement ring in a box, waiting for an answer.

"Of course" she replied.

Then she ran to get her phone to text her friends and her parents as well got the boy's computer to update her Facebook status and relationship status. Clearly, this was the engagement of an 18 year old and a 19 year old.

The only picture I have of the night we got engaged.
Fast forward nearly two years, and they got married!

And yet another two years, and they are expecting their first baby together!

Hard to believe it all started with a crush on a boy way back in 5th grade. God definitely worked on our lives and brought us together in perfect timing. Sure, we might be young, but there is no doubt in my mind that this is where we're supposed to be. We've gone through our ups and downs, but our love holds us together - I know, how corny.

Oh, and Mr. Skinny's jeep still isn't done, and if I would have tried to call him that summer before we started dating, I would have ended up calling his grandparents house because he has the same middle name as him when I thought that he would have had the same middle name as his dad. That would have been awkward, I'm really glad I didn't call him actually.

Tell me:

Do you think that some people are too young to get engaged or married?
How did you meet your significant other?

2012 Goals.

It took me so long to write this because I wasn't sure how I wanted to handle my 2012 goals. I don't like to call them resolutions only because of the bad connotation of failed resolutions. Also, I wasn't sure if I wanted to do any kind of goals because being pregnant, I'm not sure how this year is going to pan out. I don't know how I'm going to feel after having a baby, and I don't want to set my goals too high. I also feel like this year is going to be split into before/prepare for baby, and being a mom. I thought about doing goals for the first half and then re-evaluating them after I have the baby, but I think I can make them general enough so that they can work throughout the year. So here goes nothing!

1. Be the healthiest woman I can be through my eating habits. This includes eating well, making sure I have enough fruits and veggies every day, along with balanced meals and correct portions. This also includes sweets/treats in moderation. I know that when I have the baby it might be eating whatever someone makes for me, and if that's the healthiest I can be at that time, then that's just fine. I want to do my best.

2. Be the healthiest woman I can be through exercise. After baby, I really want to get back into running, but we'll deal with that hurdle when we get there. Maybe I won't be able to run due to an injury, but I want to find something that I can do and stick with it. Right now, that means walking on the treadmill. If I get to the point where walking isn't as comfortable, then maybe I'll do some yoga, but I really want to take time every day and try to work on my fitness.

3. Deliver a baby to the best of my ability. I have higher hopes for this one than might be encouraged. I'll write a blog post on that in some later months, but for right now, this means to do a ton of research and prepare my body, my mind, and Mr. Skinny to deliver a baby in the next few months. This also means that if something happens and it would be safer to deliver baby via c-section, don't beat myself up and think I did something wrong, God has His reasons, and I need to trust Him. I also want to be the best mom I can be.

My little cousin Colton the morning after he was born!

4. Save money & pay things off. Does this goal ever go away? I don't think so, and I guess I'm okay with that. This one also comes with a sub-goal - stop being so materialistic! I don't need the latest gadget to be the best person I can be! Appreciate what I have, be frugal with money, be smart. Spend more time with family and less time on my iPhone. Don't buy what we don't need.

5. Get closer to God. This is never going to go away either, and I'm definitely okay with that. Mr. Skinny and I know we want to be the best role models we can be for him/her. This means going to church on a regular basis, and taking the baby with us. My mom and I have talked that we'd like to help out in the nursery so that we can keep an eye on the baby. Really, I'm going to try to keep the baby with me in church. But we'll play that by ear. I'm also going to try to read my devotions to the baby, I read them aloud now because I know that the baby can hear me talking and so I pray out loud too, to set a good example.

So pretty much that's it! Honestly, I want to be the best person I can be, best wife, daughter, mother, cousin, and sister. I think they're all general enough that they shouldn't change, but we'll take this year with a grain of salt considering I have no idea what kind of baby I'll have and what new challenges will be coming with that.

Tell me:

Did you set any 2012 goals?
Do you call them goals or resolutions?

Twelve Weeks.

I keep wanting to come up with a nickname for the baby on the blog, well and in real life, too, but Baby Skinny sounds really weird, so I don't like that. What did you call your baby when it was in utero?

Guess you guys don't like guessing games with my kindergarten picture, so I'll tell you which one I am. Left half of the class, front row, 3rd from the left. Don't I look sexy with my strap falling off my shoulder?  Party poopers :)

Whew! 12 weeks already, the first trimester is just flying by, but I'm still trying to appreciate every day and take it one day at at time. Marveling in the miracle that is growing a child.

How Baby's Growing:

"You are 12 weeks pregnant. (fetal age 10 weeks)
  • The fetus is now about 2.5 inches (6cm) length and weighs about 0.7 ounce (20 g).
  • The feet are almost half an inch (1cm) long.
  • The fetus starts moving spontaneously.
  • The face is beginning to look like a baby's face.
  • The pancreas is functioning and producing insulin.
  • Fingernails and toenails appear.
  • The baby can suck his thumb, and get hiccups.
12 weeks
From this week you may well be able to hear the baby's heart beat through a doppler monitor on your tummy. You will notice that the rate is up to 160 a minute, double that of a normal adult.

Your baby now has a chin and a nose and a facial profile. Vocal chords are complete, and the baby can and does sometimes cry silently. The brain is fully formed, and the baby can also feel pain. The fetus may even suck his thumb.

The eyelids now cover the eyes, and will remain shut until the seventh month to protect the delicate optical nerve fibers. The hair is on the head and the fingers and toes have developed soft nails. The kidneys are developed and begin to secrete urine.

Your baby weighs between 0.5 and 0.7 ounce (14 to 20g), and crown-to-rump length is almost 2.5 inches (63mm). Your baby's size has almost doubled in the past 3 weeks.

The 12 weeks scan [10 weeks fetal age] above shows a very active fetus. The mother who can not feel these movements; belly laughs, as she looks at the screen and can see her tiny baby kicking out."

Momma's Thoughts:

Holy macaroni! Knowing that my son or daughter's feet are almost half an inch made me smile from ear to ear. The fruit comparison that baby center uses each week doesn't really make me "aww" but an example like that definitely hits hard. Also, knowing that the baby can cry makes me want to give him/her a hug! Amazing how something so small is already so developed. And look at that ultrasound! It's not mine, I just borrowed it from the website, but wow! I know it's not necessarily true that my baby is that active, but I am in such awe! How can a mother not feel that? Craziness!

How I'm Changing:

"Morning" sickness is just about gone, I think. I actually laid in bed on Monday past the normal dry heaving stage of hunger and it went away and I was just hungry. So I thought that was pretty exciting. My appetite is coming back, along with my interest of cooking again which I've missed so very much. My mom's missed that, too. She hates cooking, but she's been a good sport of helping out for the past few weeks.

Baby must be moving off my bladder, too. I can almost sleep through the night again! Oh how I've missed sleeping through the night. I'm usually up one or twice, but that's so much better than upwards of 5+ times a night.

12 week picture first thing in the morning.

When I weighed myself on Friday, I was up the pound that I lose the week before, so I'm back to +2.2 pounds, which I am very proud of so far. My wardrobe is still shrinking, but I've bought a couple maternity shirts to cope with that, and I'm going to be borrowing my cousin's whenever I can get down to see her. I'm in maternity jeans every day, but they're so comfortable, I don't mind one bit.

I think I've been fighting off a cold for the past few weeks too. Tis the season for that. My brother is full out sick, and my mom thinks she's been fighting something. So far (knock on wood), my body has been pretty good at fighting it off, and I'm hoping that continues. I've been trying to wash my hands frequently and long enough, and not touch my face, but it's hard!

My acne is still bothering me, and that's something I don't think I've talked about. I've always had pretty bad acne, but it went away while I was birth control. Once I got off, it came back and hasn't gone away since. I'm hoping this is signs of a girl, but who knows. Speaking of the baby's sex, I have a post in mind about whether we want or don't want to find out the sex of the baby. Maybe next week I'll write that.

Much more awake in this picture.

What I'm Eating:

I mentioned that my appetite is coming back, but I still have a main focus on carbs. Meat has been sneaking back in, but not too much, and still not ground beef. Veggies and fruits aren't too much of enemies anymore, however it's hard when I'm still missing all those delicious farmers markets fruits and veggies. I've been craving watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, but I don't trust buying them from the store out of season. What's a pregnant lady to do?

I had a craving, well still do, for a big soft chocolate chip cookie. When we were at the store on Sunday, I saw a box of them, so I just had to grab them and I took them to my in-laws because I was making dinner for everyone there. My father-in-law saw the cookies and asked where they came from and I had to tell him that I had a craving for them, so I got them and he asked if he could open them. I said sure and between the two of us, I'm pretty sure we polished off nearly the entire box. But they were little cookies, so not exactly what I wanted. I've been wanting to make cookies, but I know I shouldn't eat the raw egg, so I need to make vegan cookies, but I'm a little leery they won't taste the same. Any suggestions on recipes?

One good thing that's been sneaking back into my diet (and by diet, I mean the food I eat)...

Ignore the Budweiser glass. I don't even know where
this came from. No one drinks in my family!

Yes! Green monsters! Okay, well I made one and it was delicious. I tried to make one the next day and it was nasty. Fail. I think I put too many chia seeds in the second one, and it was too thick, I had to toss it. I used a half a scoop of my brother's protein powder for some extra nutrients, but he warned me that night that he didn't know if the creatine in it would be okay for the baby. So looks like I'm going to have to buy my own regular protein powder then.

Not that this is healthy, but with all the rain we've gotten this week, I've been craving hot beverages, too, so I made some peppermint hot chocolate this morning and it was delicious and just what I wanted!

How I'm Moving:

Last week I was good, walking 3 days and even doing yoga! This week, I'm using the excuse of fighting off something to go for a walk. Granted, the cold, dreary weather hasn't been helping either! Mr. Skinny keeps getting on my butt for not exercising, but it's hard from now until say April :) I know it's only hurting me if I don't exercise though. I get bored with walks, I feel like that's not a good enough workout even though I get out of breath.

Walking with the doggie.

Momma's Feelings:

I feel better as each week goes by and everything feels good. I love feeling my bump, I've caught myself rubbing it multiple times a day. I can just stare at it and wonder about the person inside. I also feel more relaxed with how many people know now. I don't have to hide it from anyone. I told my 3 best friends from college this past week and they're all super excited for me. We have one more very important person to tell though, and that is Mr. Skinny maternal grandmother. She lives in Florida and will be up on Sunday for Thanksgiving. This will be her first great-grandchild and she's not even 70 yet! I'm super excited to tell her, and I'm so glad that everyone has kept it all a secret and we've gotten to tell who we wanted to on our terms. I get nervous for everyone we tell though. Just writing about telling Grandma is making my heart pound. I don't know why, I guess because I'm not sure what exactly they're going to say, even though I know they'll be super excited. Once it's out on FB, and my church knows (just one more week!) I will breathe a huge sigh of relief that that's over.

There are days where I get nervous about our financial situation - BTW, I've been graduated for six months, so all those awesome student loans are coming in, including ones I didn't really know about. Awesome. But I know that 1) God won't give us anything we can't handle, which gives me instant peace and 2) a loving family is so much more important than anything monetary. I'd rather have my family and love them than worry about having enough money to go on a yearly vacation or have the latest gadget, and I think God is trying to teach me that. We have a wonderful extended family and we will never go hungry and we will never be homeless, and we'll always have love.

Tell me:

Are you as amazed with that ultrasound as I am?

What's your favorite hot beverage? Unless it's still warm where you are, then what's your favorite beverage right now?

Finding Out My Path.

As I mentioned in my last post, I had a busy day today. Filled with drives to the vet, haircuts, getting new insurance, and meeting with old friends. It was an eventful day. I actually got up at a decent time (7:30), ate breakfast, had Subway for lunch, and I'm making chicken with feta and bacon for dinner. When I met my friend at Dunkin Donuts I got a Coolatta, and I tracked it, but man! That was NOT worth 430 calories. I should have checked the calories before I got to Dunkin. Lesson learned.

Mr. Fozzy on the way to the vet.

And on the way home.

**Warning: Religious Post Ahead! Not a Bible pushing post, but it's definitely a religious one**

While I was talking to Candice at Dunkin Donuts, I got thinking. She is a missionary, following God's path. I respect her in every way and am awed and inspired by her. She's so open to what God wants her to do. She's already spent 3 months in Hawaii being trained to be a missionary, and she's gone to Africa for 3 months to be a missionary. She's going back to Hawaii for more training, and she's going to be working at a school in Harrisburg, training other people to be missionaries. She's hoping to go to Amsterdam, as she really thinks God is leading her to work with sex trafficked women and girls. It's incredible to listen to her stories and the way that God is working in her life.

It really got me thinking about my life and everything that I've done. Sure, I graduated from high school and went to college, but what did that get me? I haven't helped people, I haven't really followed any path that God has set out for me. I don't even really know what that path was.

Both Mr. Skinny and I consider ourselves Christians, and we have been for our entire lives. We may not have prayed together and made decision together with God, but we didn't completely ignore Him or His ways of life. Now that we're back home we'll be going to church on a regular basis, and I really do like my church. I just feel like I need to do more. Like I'm hungering for more. One of the guys I graduated from high school with did the sermon on Sunday at my church, and he really wowed me, too. It's like God is telling me that I need to do something more with my life. Look at these other people, don't just be awed by them, be inspired by them.

Now I'm just trying to figure out what that it. I always thought my passion was kids, having them, teaching them, taking care of them. And I think it truly is. So now, I just have to put that to use. Help out at church with the kid's ministry until I have my own in a few years, God willing. God will lead me to where I'm supposed to go, I have no doubt about that.

Religious or not, how did you find out what your passion was?

Job Hunting.

We're moving on Saturday, and while I know it's the best opportunity for Mr. Skinny and myself to be closer to our families, not to mention a great job for Mr. Skinny, I can't help but be bummed that I don't have a job lined up. I don't have anything on the horizon even. No, I don't love my job in Maryland, and I have to stay in school to keep it, but it's a job and has pretty good pay.

I've started looking for jobs in our area, but there doesn't really seem to be a lot. It's really hard because we're moving to a small, rural area. There aren't a lot of jobs in the immediate area, no scratch that, there are NO jobs in the immediate area, and the closest "city" is at least 35 minutes away. 35 minutes away is doable, but not for a mediocre $8/hr job at the mall. It's not worth it to put the gas in my car. Not to mention that I'd have to use Mr. Skinny's car, which has transmission problems and I'd like to drive the least distance I could.

I know that God has a plan for us, I truly do, and He's made everything else work out perfectly, I just wish He'd tell me what that plan is. We can live off Mr. Skinny's salary for a little bit, but it's not going to help us pay off any credit cards. I'm going to try my darndest to find a job, but if I can't - I'm going to have to go back to McDonalds. Lord, please have something better in store for me than McDonalds - please!

In the meantime, I'll enjoy my time running, biking, yoga-ing, reading, organizing our new lives and looking for jobs.

Good Wife/Bad Wife

I'm having trouble accepting my "wifely duties" and before anyone gets upset about sexism, please don't get your panties in a bunch. As a Christian wife, there are certain obligations that a wife needs to do in order to make her marriage successful. Submitting herself to her husband is one of them. I think that Meagan explains it in a way that I cannot. Check it out. This passage was a part of our pre-marital counseling, but I didn't truly understand it until Meagan explained it that way.

I am a selfish person. I get it from my Dad. I like people to do things for me, and get annoyed when they don't. When I do something, I want praise. This is a HUGE stumbling block for my marriage. Mr. Skinny does A LOT and when I say a lot, I mean it. He is so kind and thoughtful, he works his butt off to provide for us and does just about anything I ask him to do. He's starting to get annoyed with me that I can't do the small, few things that he asks of me to do. So yesterday at church, I really started praying about changing and being less selfish.

This morning, while I was reading my daily devotion I realized how amazing it is that God created each and every one of us. We were made in His image and He took the time to creat each one of us and thought about every little thing about us. I realized that I'm not doing Him justice by allowing my selfishness to take over my life and my marriage, and I'm knocking the selfish impulses down.

Last night I made Mr. Skinny's lunch and got all his snacks out for him, and I let him balance the checkbook. I unpacked the clothes while he unpacked the toiletries. I did my homework on the way home while he drove. I should have drove the second half home, but I was on a role and he said it was okay. I'm really going to try to continue this. I'm not saying I won't even slip back, but I feel like a better person, and a better Christian for realizing this and trying to actively change.

Other than that, the weekend was a pretty big fail - WW wise. I'm still debating if I want to face the scale this week, or wait until next week. I'm back to healthy eating, but it's the weekends that are SO incredibly difficult. I need to work on them.

Sorry this post was a little all over the place, and sorry I'm MIA so much - school is taking over my life for the next 6 weeks or so. I'm not looking forward to it.

mini pity party

Holy cow, where did September go? It's halfway through the month already! I figured I would look back on my September goals and see where I am. I have a HUGE feeling that I'm failing pretty drastically. I've been feeling down this week, my weight loss has come to a stop, and I know that it's my own fault because I eat whatever every weekend.

I hate school, okay, I don't hate it, but I really don't like it. I've become a stronger Christian since I've been married and going to a very liberal school full time again just annoys me, no one has any values or morals. I'm trying to help my brother find a school and while I'm doing that, I find a school that I *should have* listened to my mom 4 years ago because she told me to go visit it. I *should have* gone there because it would have been awesome, they have a degree in peace and conflict studies! Seriously?! Why, oh why, didn't I listen to my mom. Now don't get me wrong, I've found my three best friends at my current school and wouldn't give them up for the world, but I would have loved to have gone to a Christian school.

Along with baby fever, I don't like going to school with women who think that I'm nuts for wanting to have kids at age 21 and not go back to work ever. I want some Christian friends that understand why I feel that way. On that note, one of my best friends just came back from Germany for a year, and she was opinionated before but now she's ever more opinionated. She really thinks I'm nuts for wanting to have kids, period. I feel like she never takes anyone else's opinion into consideration.

I feel like I need a change. I really wish I could go back in time and go to a Christian college. Then I'm trying to help my brother who wants to go to community college for two years because it's cheap, which is true, but I'm so against staying and home and going to school. I feel like you need to move away and be on your own, become independent and free from your parents. Make mistakes, learn from them. Eat chocolate for dinner every night without your mom telling you to eat your veggies. Student loans are NOT that bad. Yes, it sucks, but if you're smart with how much you take out, and get a work study job, you can do it. I'm trying to see if it really is a good idea for my brother to go to a community college, then I think that I'm trying to live through him to go to the Christian school that I would have loved to go to.

Pity party over, I hope. I need to get out of this funk, take every day at a time and make life a masterpiece.

the start of a new week

I had a good weekend, it was fun. I didn't go overboard in my eating, but I didn't exactly stay OP, but I tracked everything, and that's what matters. I ran on Saturday morning, and I was pretty proud of myself for doing that. Hubby and I played tennis last night, but I was so, so, SO tired and exhausted I couldn't really play. No clue why that was, but I still did it for 30 minutes. Friday night we just went food shopping, and although my shopping list was tiny, we still spent $70, and I don't really know how.

Saturday we slept in and lounged around, and I went for a run. Saturday afternoon we went to my friend's house, she was my roommate before I got married. We had a good time there, we swam and watched Harry Potter, we grilled and had a campfire and made s'mores. I did a rough track of everything I ate, but I know I missed some things, but what am I supposed to eat when my options are cheeseburger or sausage? I did swim, too, and we played volleyball in the pool, so I earned some APs there.

Sunday we watched Charles Stanley. Hubby told me he misses going to a church, and we have a church that we go to, but it's 20 minutes away, and we never feel like getting up in the morning to go. I know it's terrible, but at least we're watching something in the morning. I think we're too nervous to try to look for a new church where we're living now, it's a daunting task, but I know we need to find a church.

My laptop has a virus, so we had to take that to Best Buy, and it would cost us $250 to get that fixed!! It's 3 years old, I got it before I started college, so it's not worth it to put that kind of money into it. We have Hubby's laptop, and that's fine for now, and we'll save money to buy our mac someday...

Then we went to Walmart and we needed stuff from there: conditioner, notebooks, garbage bags, that kind of thing. Hubby HATES walmart with a passion and it didn't help that we were arguing about money anyway, and I go and spend $120 there. We needed everything though. That kind of put me in a funk, and I just felt depressed the rest of the day, well until Hubby made me feel better. I came home from walmart and cleaned for 3 hours. I got on my knees and scrubbed the kitchen floor, I cleaned the cabinets in the kitchen and cleaned the bathroom. Later on, we dusted and vacuumed the rest of the apartment. Hubby assured me that it would be okay and we'll have enough money to pay our bills.

I threw a fit in the car when my laptop died, and I realized that I didn't have a laptop to take with me on my business trip to North Dakota, and I insisted that I should have to take Hubby's. Afterwards, I felt like a 2 year old who threw a tantrum because "it's not fair that MY laptop broke." We both apologized later, though, and I am going to take his laptop. He's going up to PA next weekend, and he can use a computer while he's there. I'd have nothing while I'm in ND. I tried to convince him that we'd have the money to pay off a new mac since my laptop broke and I NEEDED one for school (I'm acting like a child, I know). I've grown up though, and realized that I can use the school's computer while I'm there, and put any work on my thumb drive to bring it home, it's no big deal.

Hubby is on call this weekend, the company he works for has a job in DC through a sketchy residental area, and there's temporary water lines though the whole area which are very touchy and easily broken. Someone from the company has to be on-call 24/7, and this past week was Hubby's. We got two calls this weekend, one on Saturday while we were at my friend's house. Hubby went himself, it's wasn't too late, and that was fine. We got another call last night at 9pm. Me, being the good wife, went with him. Well I wasn't much help, I slept the whole time. When they called, they told him the address, Hubby thought it was weird, because it didn't seem like a road they were working on, but he asked her to double check, and she insisted that it was their line. Whatever, we drove down there, looking for the spurting water, and we couldn't find anything. Hubby calls to get the address again, and they say "oh, it was another contractor's line". Why the heck couldn't anyone call us and tell us? DC is an hour and a half from our apt!! We drove that whole way for nothing. Now Hubby's sick, he only got 4 1/2 hrs of sleep last night and is at work all day. Oh man, I feel for him today, and I'm praying for him.

That was my exciting weekend, now I have to get to work, start packing tonight. I'll update you on that tomorrow.

friday WI

I did pretty good - lost 1.2 lbs this morning, so I'm down to 169.8 - I'm so excited to be in the 160's and I am DETERMINED not to get back into them while I'm on vacation, which will be VERY hard.

I succeeded in doing my Shred last night, I did it right when I got home, which is new for me, I usually don't work out until later. I'm definitely getting used to doing the workout, I only had to take a 3 second breath twice, I think. I turned the TV down and put my itunes on though, I'm gettin sick of Jillian's jokes and "motivation" aka meanness.

I felt so good knowing that I worked out earlier and I could relax the rest of the evening. I would love to be able to do this every day, but I know I can't really because I want to have dinner ready for hubby when he comes home from work. I know I don't have to, but I want to. He works hard all day, while I just sit at my desk, he's hungry and deserves a good meal when he comes home. He'd be okay if I told him I was going to work out before making dinner, but I would feel bad. So I guess I'll just stick with working out at night.

Finally, I believe I found the solution for motivating myself to lose weight and the answer has been sitting in front of me all the time - God! Yes, God. My July goals included praying and reading my Bible 2 times each day, and until this week, I've kind of slacked on that. I make excuses which I know is terrible, I either am too tired, or hubby's sleeping and I don't want to wake it. Well no excuses anymore. I started praying on Tuesday morning, and reading my Bible again and I feel so much better! God really is wonderful and He'll help me get through this.

Oh, I tried my first Green Monster this morning, for those of you who don't know what it is - greenmonstermovement.com

Mine was more of a purple monster - maybe I didn't put enough spinach in? Anyways, I followed the first recipe and just added 2 c. spinach, 1 container vanilla yogurt, 1/2 c. skim milk, 1 banana, 1/2 c. blackberries and ice. The blackberries gave it a purple-y color, but it was pretty good. I added 1 tbsp. of PB2 - a ground peanut butter sub. - bellplantation.com - it's pretty awesome and only 1 pt. for 2 tbsp of this stuff (it's ground peanuts basically, that you mix with water).

So that was my breakfast, I could definitely taste the peanut butter and bananas. I think I'll make them a couple times a week, we'll see if it affects my energy like "they" claim.

Menu:
B - "Green" Monster: 5pts.

S - 1 c. grapes: 1pt.

L - WW lasagna (again, I'm so sick of this!): 4.5pts.
1 c. mixed berries: 1pt.
2 containers of Fiber One yogurt: 1pt.

D - Classic Shepherd's Pie (I didn't make this last night, with hubby sick, he didn't want to eat and we still had lasagna, so I had leftovers - AGAIN!): 5pts.
2 c. skim milk: 3.5pts.
3 tbsp. part skim mozzarella cheese: 1pt.

That leaves me with 1.5pts. for the day and all my GHG's filled except whole grains, so I might have toast later tonight.

Goals today:
-Read Bible 2x (half done)
-Shred tonight at some point
-Follow my eating plan
-Drink 72 ounces of water

Let's see how I did with yesterday's goals:
-stick to my food plan - done, even though I subbed lasagna for shepherd's pie, I didn't go over
-do my 30 Day Shred tonight - done, very successfully I might add :)
-drink 72 ounces of water - done again, and I'm getting used to so much water, I don't have to run to the bathroom all the time.

I'll check in tomorrow!

“Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.” – Matthew 7:7-8 KJV

quick menu

Thought I would just put my menu out there for today since I need to stay accountable:

B - awesome egg burrito w/ egg whites, part skim mozzarella cheese, 1 slice of canadian bacon, taco sauce on a whole wheat tortilla: 4 pts.
1 c. V8 fusion light: 1 pt.

L - salad with turkey and feta, balsamic vinegarette: 4.5 pts.
lf vanilla yogurt (activia) w/ 1 c. mixed berries: 2 pts.
1 c. watermelon: 1 pt.

S - plum: 0.5 pt.

D - 1/2 serving WW lasagna: 4.5 pts. (leftovers from last night)
green beans with parmesan cheese & butter: 2.5 pts.
2 c. skim milk: 3.5 pts.

So I have 0.5 pts. left for the day, I'm sure I won't use them, but really, I've been not proportioning my food very well, and I know it. I'm waiting for it to catch up on my weight loss, and then I'll actually do something about it. Once I get to 165 then I'll buy myself a food scale so that I have it, and I already have a spot for it on my counter.

Depending on how much water I drink, I have all my GHGs in today, whew! I still don't have any urge to exercise, and I know that I need to. Hopefully tonight since I won't be cooking I can get my butt into gear and do my Shred. I'll walk 2x today at work, too, so that's 2 APs for the day.

I snuck a look at the scale this morning and I was 170.8, so I have 2 more days to get under 170. I'm so sick of being stuck right around 170!! You think that would motivate me enough to actually do something, and it doesn't.

I read my Bible for the first time in a couple days last night, and I got down on my knees and prayed before I crawled into bed, too. When I got up this morning I had extra time too, so I read my little Bible verse and the explanation from Charles Stanley. I really think I need to turn to God to help me now, I'm getting to that point, and I haven't been as close to God as I need to be, and He's showing me that I will only fail without Him. I'm starting to see it again and I'm praying and involving Him more in my life than I was.

Well maybe I'll post later and let you all know if I actually did my Shred or not, I hope so. I need to kick my butt into gear if I ever want to lose this weight.

"And Jesus said unto them ... , "If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to younder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible to you."
